It is Intense
Being a Chef is not easy. Chefs are on their feet for many hours, and it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, study, and experience before earning the title. Knives have to sharpen just right, stoves need to produce the right amount of fire, and you are not alone in the kitchen so have to be aware of your space and those around you without dropping the ball.
You are expected to be fast and precise because there is little or no room for correcting mistakes so the pressure can be overwhelming. However, if you are truly passionate and willing to put in the work and time needed to grow, learn and thrive, you can take chef courses that will help propel you to the next level every time.
Be Ready for Accidents
It doesn’t matter how careful, talented or the number of chef courses you took, an accident will happen when you’re working as a chef. Chefs are taught how to operate safely in the kitchen but when you’re constantly working with sharp tools, heat, ice, and other elements getting hurt is inevitable. It is not a surprise that many chefs will at one point or another have band-aids on their hands or fingers.
It is Time Consuming
Many chefs will tell you that their work takes a lot of their time. Many have no time for family, friends or meaningful relationships. Today we have restaurants that operate round the clock and most regular ones are open from morning to night time. Competition is also very high and chefs are constantly working on new ideas, recipes, and techniques to stay relevant in the industry. As you decide whether to take up those chef courses, consider the commitment that will be required from you if and when you start working.
You Will Not Necessarily Become a Chef
Irrespective of the institution you choose to take your chef courses from, it will not automatically translate into you becoming a chef. Chef courses will help you acquire important skills that will push you to greatness, but not automatically as a chef.
The industry is very competitive and only the very best chefs get recognized. It takes a lot of hard work, experience, creativity, time and passion to get to a level where you are recognized as a Chef. Many people who take up chef courses end up working in other capacities.
Do not be discouraged, if you want to be a chef and are passionate, then you can be. Keep working hard and being committed and it will eventually pay off.
